When Troy Williams founded Questia Media Inc. in 1998, Google had not yet begun its digitization effort; Williams wrestled print copyrights and scanning processes to create the first online library. Students in 200 countries now have access to Questia’s 70,000 books and nearly 2 million articles. In 2007, he left Questia to develop PeoplePad Inc., an early-stage Internet company located in Austin. PeoplePad is still in stealth mode, but Williams describes it as “a gargantuan project” being built on semantic Web technologies.
